    Post Meanderings
There were 3 things that Tim had to do. The 3 things that absolutely had to be completed by noon. He had been planning them for the last 4 hours, he knew he had to do it just right. Any other way would not be the Lasher way. The three things were very simple, and if done in the correct sequence would be finished in mere moments.

    Yet he hesitated.

Tim wondered how his father would complete the series of events. His father was trying to tell him how, but he no longer listened to him. The phone was ringing somewhere nearby, but there was no time for slight distractions. His father had been leaving messages on his answering machine for 30 minutes. The volume was off.

    It was now 12:22 pm.

    attack of the spores
My teeth are ringing. They sing the song of sneezes and dry eyes. My head aches, my throat is raw from sneezes, my nose constantly runs.

My allergies are having a field day. There is the red team, they are playing with my eyes and throat. The blue team has tackled my teeth and nose. They both contend for my mind in a fierce round of tug of war. Neither ceding any ground yet the tension on the rope getting ever tighter.

Allegra, the referee, has lost control of the field of play, and chaos reigns. Sudafed is called in to help out, he might stop the onslaught or just lull me to sleep. Still I must go on with my day.

I don't know if I would pay any price, there are just too many ways that can be abused, but I agree on all of Friedman's points in this NYTimes op-ed.

    Thor's Day
I have been awfully tired lately.

Kona is underneath the desk, he has been awfully clingy lately (for a dog, my housemates' dog). But I like him so I forgive and pet him.

    Went to
Grill 23 tonight. A Lecture by Dr. Manuel Montes, presented by Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The food was excellent, highly recommended.

The lecture was on the use of monopharmacy in treating Schizophrenics.

    Yep.

Still tired. Sleep. More coherent posts soon, I promise.

PS: Site was down as someone was DOS-ing logjamming my provider.

    Please stop. Thank You.

    What I wrote on 9/11
    1:20 PM
    Angela is ok, if rattled.

Blogs that are talking about the disaster.

I am still too shocked to know what I am feeling. I left work at 10:30. I was told by Tracey at 10:00 about what happened but when he added "... a plane also hit the pentagon." So I "KNEW" that it had to be a joke because that just pushed it over the top. I could see a plane hitting the towers, but not 2, and another hitting the pentagon was absurd. I was wrong.

    I wish I wasn't.

I hope that you and your loved ones are safe.

    4:20 PM
I can't get the image of a SNL skit that aired before the Supreme Court decision that gave Bush the Presidency.

The skit showed the president giving a talk on TV at the oval office. The first skit was Gore lecturing america.

The second skit was Bush, the Capitol burning behind him, the US in shambles.

Hope you are well. I am still in shock.

Right now I am worried about cousins and friends who work in NYC. I got an “I am out on vacation” response for Rob’s email and Keith's voice mail said he would be out of town until next week. I hope this means that they left the city.

    quartered and drawn
The date is set. Wisdom tooth extraction on October 3rd. All 4. Teeth 1 and 16, 17 and 32. With me doped up and willing.

To celebrate I spent money. Books. More books bought. More books to read and sit in a pile by my bed.

After the Quake by Murakami, my all time favorite living writer. I read one story already, it was published in an issue of GQ sometime ago, "Super frog saves Tokyo."

The 2003 Writers Market Online cause people keep saying, "Mike why don't you write more." and "Write a novel already." and "I hate you Mike. I hate you forever."

Scientific American's new issue about Time. So I can build that time machine I have always desired.

and the 2003 Greenpeace calendar. The one calendar I buy each year.

    bothering me
There are things that I keep saying that I should be doing, yet I just do the opposite. I get sucked into things, TV, Books, email, and before I know it 5 hours have passed. All the things that are in my head that I want to say and that I have been planning in my head, I don't have the time to do it.

Even now, there are things I would rather be doing, but I am not.

    tooth screams
So on Thursday I had a splitting pain all up the right side of my skull. It came on all at once, no slow building, no gradual increase, just quiet and then a pain so bad I almost fell to my knees.

I assumed it was a migraine. I took some Excedrin, sat down and waited for it to subside. Eventually I grew used to the pain and was able to pinpoint its source. My lower right wisdom tooth. Something was dreadfully wrong with it. I took something stronger and it began to dull. I went home and hoped it would disappear.

On Friday I made and appointment to see a Dentist. My wisdom tooth, I was told, had broken partially through. I had a slight infection, which is what was causing the pain. I made an appointment with an oral surgeon, but that won't be til the 11th.

The drugs I am on to fight this infection leave me drowsy and I have woken up these past 3 days just to take the next pill.

I awoke just an hour ago.

    I feel tired and weak.

    How can I be saved?

There were two of them. They were sitting on my couch using my laptop to browse porn sites. I had no idea who they were.

    - Umm, excuse me. Who are you two?

    - You must be Mike, said the chubbier of them. He looked bored, as if nothing happened to him ever anymore. His companion's face was littered with pock marks and had a small mole above his left eye.

    - Nice couch you have here.

I stared at them for a minute more, they were entranced by the pixilated women. I went upstairs to my room. Nothing looked as if it had been touched. I picked up my 9 iron and went back down with the hope that my questions would be answered. They were now in the kitchen drinking my roommate's beer.

    - Ok look, what are you two doing in here?

    - Good beer, chubby said. Kind of bitter though. We are looking for Jim.

    - He's at work. How did you two get in here?

Pock Mark started sniffing the trash can, he stuck his whole head in and came out with a Tuna tin in his teeth.

    - Shit. Get the fuck out of my house. Now!

I raised the golf club over my head.

    - Don't worry, we just need something that Jim took from us last night, Chubby said. It should have been easy to spot but it looks like he hid it, he is tricky like that. As you know Mike.

My roommate was almost always stoned, I just had to assume that these guys were looking for his stash.

    - Have you seen my pamphlet? said Pock Mark.

    - What?

    - His pamphlet, said Chubby. It is titled How to Get to Heaven. He wrote and drew it on his last parking ticket. We need it to help formulate our defense. We lent it to Jim last night.

I just looked right through him. He finished the beer.

    - If you find it please give us a call. Ok? Chubby said as they walked out the back door. Thanks for the beer and porn by the way.

I locked the door and went up stairs. I got the pamphlet out from under my mattress and read it again. For the thousandth time.

There was no way that I was letting anyone take it from me.
